French Prestige

Quai D'Orsay

In the early 1970s, French minister Valéry Giscard d'Estaing wanted a cigar that "helps our diplomats export French prestige" because "France shines all over the world with its perfume, champagne and haute couture, but it has nothing in tobacco". Gilbert Belaubre thought that the best way to make high quality cigars was simply to let the Cubans do it. Certainly, a point well made. Receiving a request to make exclusive cigars for a third party was a first for Habanos! It so happened that the ministry was located at 37 Quai D'Orsay. Thus, a consensus was formed around this name and on February 23, 1972, the brand Quai d'Orsay was officially registered.

Created as a lighter-bodied cigar, all of its sizes tend to use light wrappers, a frequent preference in France.  These cigars are solid in texture of medium strength and a delightful taste with good burning properties.  Aromatic, woody, and slightly nutty flavors are all present in the Quai D’0rsay cigar selections.
