The Glory of Cuba
La Gloria CubanaIntroduced in 1885, La Gloria Cubana or "The Glory of Cuba" brand, is one of the oldest Cuban cigar brands established by the Sociedad Cabanos y Castro. Developed by José Rocha and Rafael García, the brand got off to a good start thanks to tireless promotion by Pepin Fernández, owner of the Romeo y Julieta brand, who helped his friends introduce the La Gloria Cubana and El Crepúsculo brands overseas. Since the early days, this brand distinguished itself by its ornate and elaborate presentation. The legendary “papeletas” or dressings on the boxes comprised of 100% gold foil that would adorn the stunning rococo inspired lithography.
In 1954, after being purchased by the prominent Cifuentes family (along with Bolivar), production was moved from its 364 Miguel Street location to the Partagas factory. Briefly following the acquisition of the Partagas factory by the revolutionary government, production was briefly halted until 1965, but later resumed with smaller production output. La Gloria Cubana stands as arguably the rarest and most sought after of the Cuban cigar brands amongst aficionados and collectors. This reputation is well merited by virtue of its limited cigar exports and quality, worthy of its rightfully boastful name.
