Valley of Monterrey

Hoyo de Monterrey

During the late 1800s, a tobacco leaf grower by the name of José Gener farmed the fertile land in the "Vuelta Abajo" region of Southwest Cuba. In the Vuelta Abajo village of San Juan y Martinez stands a plantation gate inscribed with ‘Hoyo de Monterrey, Jose Gener, 1860’, which reveals the founder of the Sr. Gener brand in 1865. Eventually, in 1960, the family brand became one of the most well-known cigar factories in Cuba, producing one of the most coveted Cuban cigar brands named Hoyo de Monterrey, which loosely translates to "the valley of Monterrey.”

The “Le Hoyo” series was commercially released in the mid-1970s.  Known by most cigar aficionados for its distinctive flavor, silky richness, and complex taste, the Hoyo de Monterrey Double Corona is perhaps the most sought after and coveted Cuban cigar.  Produced in seven factories, the Hoyo vitolas, including the magnificent Hoyo Double Corona, are made with only the finest Cuban tobacco.
